There's a reason Scott Joplin's second most popular song on Apple Music is "Maple Leaf Rag." The upbeat, bright tone of the song is simply a vibe. What I find remarkable about this song is that it seems to be a perfect fit for any situation. It could serve as great background music for a casual listen when you're doing something fun and looking for some music to match the mood. It can also provide a mesmerizing in-depth listen if you want to set aside any distractions and let the magical sound of the ivory keys flow through your mind. The sound seems to fit perfectly with the turn of a century in the early 1900’s. It seems like the perfect kind of music for a get together full of dancing and laughter for the time period. Joplin uses many impressive riffs throughout the song that are both impressive as well as catchy. These riffs continue to play in one's head even after the song is over. The bottom line is that “Maple Leaf Rag” is a total classic from the RagTime craze era. Its complexity and yet simplicity allows it to resonate with virtually everybody who is looking for a classic ragtime song.
I couldn’t agree more with the fact that this rag just makes you feel happy when you hear it. I love compiling a bunch of videos and making an imovie, but the best part is choosing a song to put to it. When I heard this I thought of all the videos I could put this song to just to give it a happy vibe.
ReplyDeleteAs a piano player, everyone knows Scott Joplin's "The Entertainer" but as a personal preference I enjoy Maple Leaf Rag more. Whenever I hear it I think of an old western saloon where there is a guy on the piano playing a fun jazzy piece like this one. It is impressive to think about someone composing a piece like Maple Leaf Rag.

The way the piano is played here is absolutely breathtaking and I could see myself taking a listen whenever I possible could. The song definitely has a catchy tune that is going to be stuck in whoever listens to it head for a few days.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this tune. I like the upbeat vibe it provides, just as you described. This song makes me want to tap my feet and do a little dance in my seat haha. I agree it is vERY catchy and will for sure be playing in the back of my mind.
